Ewan McGregor

Done for a Drawing Jam on the actor. About 90 minutes, pencil and Photoshop.

The texture overlay is a map of London's railway system. It's a reference to the movie which launched Ewan's career, 'Trainspotting' in which he portrays a junkie. The 'tracks' going up his arm, was one of those artist's happy accidents which occured while I was positioning the map.

Since he's wearing a suit, I'm also submitting this to Illustration Friday's current topic 'Suit'.

Love the "Tube" map as a textural element, but I am cartographer by trade, so I guess that makes sense. As you can see by my continuous run on sentences, I am not a grammarian.

I think the likeness(too much elongated face?) is a bit off but its a great draft as always Chris love the 300 sketch.

Hey Chris,

Just discovered your blog (yes I'm a bit slow I know). So this is what you've been doing down there at the foot of the mountains (it was -4 in Katoomba last night - brrr)!

Absolutely awesome stuff.

Thanks everyone for the great comments!

Nelson- Initially I wasn't too worried about getting a likeness, just wanted to capture the pose. But when I started to add the shading, Ewan's likeness came through but by then I'd already elongated the face shape etc.

Matt Hatton- Good hearing from you again, mate. Still doing movie work?

-4. Brrrr is right. It's a sweltering 6 degrees here in the valley :)
