More Bettie Page art

This is the piece I wanted to create back in December for Bettie Page's tribute but at the time I only managed a simple cartoon. So it's a little late to be a tribute, but anytime's a good time to draw Bettie. Expect more soon.

Here's a link showing the pencils and the halfway stage on the colours.

Fantastic work!
I really like the rendering on this one. Great cast shadows and variance in colour saturation. So much cool looking contrasts in this one

Hi Chris,
Great job on this! I know I have asked similar questions before - please forgive if a repeat. What is your process with this piece? Did you use reference images? Is your first image actually a pencil drawing? Or is it done digitally? What drawing program(s) are you using? I'd love to see the layered file to see the progression?
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks all!

Jonathan- Originally the scanned pencil sketch was intended for someone else to colour, but when that didn't eventuate I decided to give it a go, as I really liked the pose.

It was based on a photo of Bettie Page, but I altered a few things to make it more appealing (mainly the flow of her hair, her expression and a slight stylisation of her physique). You can see the photo here- http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c201/CWahl/bpbath6.jpg

Digitally I used Photoshop CS4. The linework was colorised on a separate layer. Flat colours were added onto another. A hard round brush with pen pressure opacity was used for painting. Once the initial painting was done the piece was flattened and the pencils were blended into the paint using the smudge tool with a speckled brush.

I didn't use many layers on this so unfortunately only have limited progression to show (namely the pencils and the halfway point, linked on the post)

Wow...I didn't anyone could make Bettie Page look sexier than she actually looked in real life...but I think you have done it...man, the core shadow tones on her legs (and everywhere) are subtle and gorgeous!
